Linseeds are a high quality protein, containing all the essential amino acids. They must be boiled before feeding to horses to release the highly volatile cyanogenic glycosides which are toxic to horses. (In America these have apparently been bred out of linseeds which is why American nutritionists advise crushing or soaking linseeds, but it does not apply here.)
